Late 1800s To Early 1900s
The Wick became a hive of industry with chemical, confectionary and petroleum-based industries setting up here. Many factories were based at White Post Lane, including the Hope Chemical Works.
1862
Alexander Parkes created ‘Parkesine’, widely regarded as the first manufactured plastic at a factory on Wallis Road..
1930s
The British Perforated Paper Co, famous for inventing toilet paper in 1880, was based at Hackney Wick.
1980
Hackney Wick Station opens.
2005
The Olympic Games were awarded to London, specifically East London, and this kick-started the transformation of Hackney Wick.
